Santa Anna Speech
I am Santa Anna
Written By: Emily Goll-Broylles
Most people see me as a horrible person. They believe that I lead Mexico only in self-interest, but that is not true. I led Mexico in the interest of showing the world that Mexico can be a world superpower. That we are strong. I am not cruel, I am a leader. Leaders must make sacrifices, and I have. Some I regret, others were necessary in the interest of my people. I can only hope that in 100 years or so, the world will recognise my mistakes and forgive them.
I was harsh on the Texans and showed no mercy, to show my true followers, the faithful Mexicans, that the same would be brought upon them if they tried to revolt. I didn't accept the Constitution of 1824 because it didn't fit the morals I held at the time, but that was a mistake. Everyone makes these mistakes in life, but being a ruler, mine were publicized. I know I wasn't doing too much wrong as I was elected 11 times. The PEOPLE voted for me, they wanted me to be in office, and I accepted. I accepted the challenges of ruling a country and I did my best to respond to all pleas of help imposed upon me. I tried to give freedom, but too much led only to my downfall.
I acted in loyalty to my country and my thirst for my people to see the greatness in my rule. I am called Napoleon of the West and to be compared to his military prowess must mean that I have comparable skill. I called for sieges, my generals obeyed. But one showed mercy, compassion, and he will not be remembered for bravery in battle, no, General Uria will be remembered for cowardice. I showed no mercy because i could show no weakness. I killed at the 13 day Battle of the Alamo to show consequences of revolt. Some say the massacres and battles were unethical, but when has battle been ethical?
No I did not rule Mexico in self-interest, I lead it in devotion, and this devotion was my downfall. I stand here today to show that I am not the horrible person I am said to be, that I have a heart. I am Santa Anna, devoted to his people, and sorry to see this war.

BOOM! SNAP! BAM! Do you hear that sound? That is the wonderful sound of us getting closer to freedom! That should be the last set of gunfire of Texas Revolution we heard. I want to stand in honor of those who served our country. I would like to stand in determination to win this revolution and take back our nation. I’m devoted to fighting for the Freedom of Texas.
Today, I have come to speak to you. I have come to gather those willing to fight for our nation and what we believe in. I would like to enlarge our army, filling it up with brave soldiers to win this revolution. President Bustamante took away our civil and political rights and Santa Anna followed in his footsteps. The Mexican government thinks our army is tiny and “pathetic”, but we will show them who has the stronger will. The first reason why I can here is to remind you of what those savages did to our brave soldiers, your friends and family! The second reason is to express the statistics and casualties of our loss. They heartlessly murdered thousands innocent people, and we should not go without a fight to finish what others were unable to. The third reason is to let you hear my plans on an attack at San Jacinto. I have come here with the hopes of you trusting me to guide you through this battle and into victory.
Throughout this revolution, those ruthless and evil savages have taken apart our army. They have crushed us to the ground. Most of all, they murdered thousands of our friends. I believe that this calls for revenge, revenge against that worthless dictator and his cold-hearted army. We must fight against his monstrous rule and stand up to the challenge given to us. Let us fight for the death of our loved ones! The Battle of the Alamo left only a couple of living women. Where were the rest of the Texans? Dead and burnt to the ground. I will not accept this and nor shall you. Let us take revenge upon the Mexicans for our brothers, fathers, uncles, and even our neighbors. This shall not go without action. Mothers, innocent girls and boys were slaughtered and left to bleed to death. Wives, husbands were murdered on the spot. Friends, loved ones were shot and stabbed to death. We can’t let this keep happening. It is about time to fight to win or at least fight to our deaths. To stop the murders of our loved ones, I suggest that you stand with me and join my army. WE MUST FIGHT FOR REVENGE~!
Speaking of, do you know what the statistics and causalities of our loss was? Santa Anna bragged that there was 600 Texans that were killed in battle. However in reality, only 250 defenders died. This shows how selfish and immature Santa Anna is. And guess what? Among those who were ruthlessly murdered was Bowie, Travis, and Crockett. Those were some of our fearless and brave fighters who risked their lives defending the Alamo. Crockett didn't even die in battle. He survived through the living and rotting he11, while watching his fellow peers get stabbed and shot to death. Yet, Santa Anna was monstrous. He ordered those who weren't killed in battle to be execute or better yet killed in cold blood. You may be wondering why we should continue to fight against our enemy if they kept murdering us in cold blood. Well, the answer is quite simple. The more we fight, the more we break apart their army. We may have lost 250 men at battle, but we have killed or wounded 1000 Mexicans for a real cause. This is a reason to fight. We must fight to tear apart their army. Like a stone wall, we must pull brick-by-brick until the stone tower falls. We must fight to avenge those 250 strong men and continue to take the army apart, brick-by-brick.
I am the right leader that will allow you to fight for the right cause. I will make reasonable and thoughtful decisions against that despicable Mexican army. I am a powerful leader with a strong voice and intelligent thoughts. I will guide you, even with two eyes blind. Trust in me and I shall lead you to victory. I was involved in the War of 1812 and served along Andrew Jackson. I was elected governor of Tennessee and have a lot of experience in politics. I am brave, courageous, thoughtful, commutative, aggressive, and a strong leader. I have the will to fight for Texas and the brain to make those impossible choices. I will train everyone of you with the fundamentals of warfare, from morning until dawn. I shall shower you with encouragement. You may be wondering what my plans are against the Mexican Government. Against President Burnet’s wishes, we should not attack until we are fully ready. As Santa Anna will move to Harrisburg, that is when we shall attack and move the army towards the San Jacinto River. I will take the road south to Harrisburg instead of east to Louisiana. This is where we shall fight. We need more soldiers in our tiny army. I need your aid in this revolution. I need you to trust that I am a strong and devoted leader to Texas. Let us fight for Texas!
After hearing my reasons, I surely hope that you will deeply consider your options. Remember the revenge against those ruthless savages and to avenge the death of your loved ones! Remember the causalities that Santa Anna has brought to our feet! Remember how I will lead you to victory, to success, and to the Freedom of our dear Texas! Remember, remember, remember our need for freedom, our need to fight, our need for victory. Remember the Alamo! Remember the monstrous Santa Anna! Join me now! Join me and we shall make history together! Let us bring Texas to a great nation! Our pain ends today!

I have been the leader for the Independence of Texas for many years, but I have not seen so many lives lost, yet so many courageous soldiers here fighting for the freedom of Texas. These sacrifices were not in vain, as they were fighting for the Independence of Texas from Mexico and the dictatorship of Santa Anna. The dead will be forever honored and remember. As the revolution continues, there will be soldier fighting and tradgedies happening. This war will be a great milestone for us, proud Texans, to show us our independence, strength, and courageousness toward one goal, an Independent Texas
When you look at what's happening, Santa Anna has been massacring us Texans as if we were just flies in his dictatorship. Would you want to follow someone who shows no mercy to pleading soldier and sacrifices his own soldier as shield? No, that is what. We must rise against him and gain our independence from the rulings of Mexico. We are powerful and intelligent, and have the power to rise against them. This is our war, and nobody will take it away from us. Texas will become one, without the cruel rulings of Santa Anna, we could become much more then being slaves of a cruel and unjust government who does not even listen to our pleads.
I have previously been previously loyal to the Mexico government, but after what they have done to me, I have lost my trust to them. After my trip to Mexico to tell the government about your wishes and demands, they picked me up on my way back to Texas, and threw me into a dungeon. They didn't even allow me for a trial or anything of that sort. After the one and a half year of being trapped in that...place, I would gladly help you fight against the Mexico Government, and with that, I know we will win. This government is not fit to rule over us, as I, a politician, knows what is just and what it is that we need for us to be heard and be free.
Though the great loss at the Mission Alamo, with sacrifices of many brave soldiers and leaders, it has been brought upon us that though we may have lost one battle, but the war is not over. We have fought hard and strong, with about a hundred against tens of thousands, our army fought to the end, with our 250 men that probably killed and wounded more than just a few thousand. This battle raises the cry of “Remember the Alamo!” for it is definitely to be remembered. Davy Crockett, James Bowie, and many more great leaders had died in the fight for our freedom. We must not give up now, we have the strength to crush Santa Anna's army and I know it. This war, will be remembered as a symbol to not give up, and to fight for those who died in the Alamo.
I hope that you will join me and my other revolutionaries. I know you don't like the way the Mexican Government has been ruling over us. This will free us from the Mexican government, fmo Santa Anna, and we will become independent, and our wishes will be heard. If you wish upon for these things, you must join us to fight, for your efforts will not be wasted and every step you take is one step closer to freedom. I know we will win this war, and we will be released from the leashes of Mexico to become the Independent Texas.

Most people think of me as brave and calculated. But often, I lose my temper and get very angry. I sometimes act on impulse and commit rash actions. For example, one of these was killing a man who my wife was having an affair with. I then left her and my son to leave to Texas. I certainly don’t regret it, as I’m here about to fight for Texas in the Alamo, but I certainly would be happier if I didn’t have to kill a man. I don’t even have any evidence he did it. I am very positive of it, but not 100% sure. I just wish my life could have turned out a better way. At least I have made a few accomplishments along the way.
Working with the war party here has been a great honor. It is so great to be able to work with and fight alongside greats such as, Sidney Sherman, Sam Houston, and Colonel James C. Neil. Although I am an outsider I feel like this place is now a part of me. I am just as angry as everyone else here about Santa Anna’s cruel dictatorship. I am angry all right, and now is the time to do something about it.
Now it is time for me to fight, here in the Alamo, and lead these men into battle. I wish Bowie was along side with me, but that won’t be possible. I often quarrel with him, but he is the closest thing I have to a friend. I fight today not to win, but for honor, and to protect the Texans. I originally came here since it had opportunities and to get away from my family, but now it means much more. I came as an illegal immigrant, but not anymore. I may be rash at times, but now I know exactly what I am doing. Now, I am a being a Texan and fighting for my country, The Republic of Texas.
